Music Becomes Movement and Movement Becomes Dance

My kids LOVE to move and they LOVE to play instruments!

I love trying to find creative ways in involving both movement and instrumental playing and singing. These materials are more for my K-2 music classes. With such a small school, we only have one section of each grade, but even though we are small, we have a big personalty. These students love to have music class and love to be funny, sing, and dance. With being a first-year teacher, I have many new ideas and would love to try different lessons with the students, but I just don't have the materials, nor a big enough budget to do so.

My Project

The two parachutes are going to be used in many different ways, from a drum circle, to adding movement to our songs, such as "She'll Be Comin' Around the Mountain" and "Shoo Turkey Shoo Shoo". The smaller parachute will be used for the classroom type activities, and the larger parachute will be used for programs at our school. The stretchy band will be used for the same thing, but is also is a good way to keep a steady beat with the kids, how to learn dynamics and is a more reasonable resource to pull out for small quick lessons, then it is to drag out and set up the parachute.

These donations will make a huge difference in our class because the students will get more opportunities to try new things.

Since not all children learn the same way, I love having new and different ways to teach a concept. I want to be able to cater, not only to those that can learn a concept and move on to applying, but to those with special needs that need more examples and different ways to learn the concept, to then apply it.
