This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Let's face it....Music is never a hard sell. But I'm the type of teacher that always takes it to the next level for my low-income students. It's time to show them how the arts and technology go hand in hand.
I teach music at a low-income elementary school where all students receive free lunch and none of my students can afford to buy instruments or any type of technology.
There was a recent vote in our district to cut spending for the arts by 50% next year and possibly by 100% the following year. Luckily, I am at a charter school that supports the arts but we depend on donors like you and other supporters to help take our music program to the next level. For many students, this music program is why they come to school.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad to assist with the composition component of my program. Creating music is an integral developmental process for the students (and fun!). When I hear some of their songs they've created I look forward to seeing how they will do it with technology. The iPad has GREAT programs where they can play the piano, drums and guitar to make awesome rhythms. It also helps with cool music notation apps and lets them listen to musical selections through iTunes.
Since we are getting our students ready for the future, we have to get them on the technology NOW instead of waiting for the FUTURE to come first.
Thank you for making this next step possible and helping us integrate the arts with technology!
