I am an Early Childhood Family Education Teacher. ECFE is a program that offers parents and their children from birth to Pre-K the opportunity to grow and learn together.
ECFE is open to everyone in the community, regardless of income or inability to pay. Many of the students in my classes are from low-income families who do not have the resources to expose their children to many different learning opportunities. These children will need these literacy, language, and social skills along with the ability to follow directions in order to be successful in school.
Music is powerful for children. I incorporate music into all parts of my curriculum. We sing during transitions, to line-up and clean-up, to learn about the calendar, and to learn new language and skills. When children are singing and moving they are totally engrossed in learning and having fun. Children naturally respond to music by moving with it. Music and movement helps children learn language, phonics, rhythm, timing, body parts, coordination, and listening skills. Many studies have also shown a strong relationship between singing and literacy development. When children sing they are beginning to learn sequencing, phonics, rhyming, and language which are all critical skills used in reading.
Your help will make it possible for my students to experience hands-on music and movement skills. They will also be able to engage in these activities with their parents which makes for a wonderful interactive bonding time and also allows the parents to learn about how music helps their child's development.
