My Students
This will be my sixth year teaching 4th grade and 4th year teaching in Pender County. I am lucky enough to teach energetic, personality-filled, fantastic kids. They all have their strengths; they all bring something different to our classroom. And let me tell you, they can all make you smile.
All of my students have positive attitudes and determination to succeed but may lack the resources necessary to do so.
All my students may look different on the outside but throughout the year they end up finding more similarities with one another than they thought. With support, love, and consistency, these children can achieve the impossible. I cannot wait to see how much they grow as students and people throughout this year!
My Project
As a 4th grade teacher in North Carolina there is so much pressure surrounding testing. I have found that the best way to help my students succeed on testing is exposing them to all different types of literature, integrating social studies and science standards, keeping them engaged and allowing them work collaboratively.
I love how my students get so excited when they are exposed to something new!
Woodsong, a higher level memoir by Gary Paulsen will definitely enhance their excitement!
While reading Woodsong my students reading skills and strategies will be practiced each and every day. In addition to reading skills becoming stronger my students will be able to work on their research skills by researching a musher, tracking certain dogs and even work on some math skills such as elapsed time. This book will teach my students many lessons surrounding perseverance and hard work, two lessons that are essential for them to become the very best version of themselves.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
