This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a bunch of sparkly first graders in a low income school in Texas. We have a small library but not enough of the books they like to read.
Can you imagine kids wanting the same book, all 17 of them? Can you imagine reading the same 3 stories over and over again? I love to see my kids search for the books of the their choice. I love to see how they can't even wait to get back to the room to read their books. But sadly, they cannot all get the books they want to read. My kids love to to read books written by Robert Munsch. He writes the funniest, most exaggerated stories for young children.
And that is exactly what I want to give them. I would like for them to have available, a collection of his funniest books. They would be able to read a different story every week and I know they would be excited to read every time. At this early age, sometimes it can be a struggle to get them to LOVE to read. But these books can do exactly that for my kids.
These books, even I find them to be funny, can give my children the love for reading they strongly need. At the beginning, it can be hard for them to wish and want to read and not just read because they have to read. But 'Together' we can turn this around and make them readers for the rest of their lives and not just for this school year.
