My Project

Welcome to second grade—a space where active learning and sensory engagement are essential for success! I am working to integrate additional multisensory tools and manipulatives into our daily instructional routines to better support my students’ diverse learning needs. During phonics instruction, lined whiteboards, dry erase markers, and erasers will be used to reinforce spelling patterns through decodable word practice. Elkonin boxes will support phonemic awareness and sound-letter correspondence, particularly benefiting struggling readers during whole-group and small-group instruction. In math, manipulatives such as base-10 blocks, clocks, coins, and linking cubes will provide students with concrete, hands-on experiences to develop number sense and foundational problem-solving skills.

Multisensory tools and manipulatives enhance learning for young and struggling students by engaging multiple pathways in the brain—visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile—thereby strengthening memory, comprehension, and skill acquisition.

These strategies promote active, hands-on learning, which supports deeper conceptual understanding and helps bridge gaps in foundational skills, particularly in students with diverse learning needs such as dyslexia or language processing difficulties.
