FULLY FUNDED! Ms. E.'s classroom raised $322
This project is fully funded
As a tutorial/support teacher of a third grade class, I am finding that many of my students do not know their multiplication facts (multiplication tables). Our school an Elementary school, located in the East New York section of Brooklyn, with 98% of our students eligible for free lunch. With calculators so readily available, the drill of multiplication facts is a thing of the past, and many students find themselves handicapped during testing, as they struggle to compute simple problems without a calculator.
I recently came across a CD with "Multiplication Rap", and thought this would be a wonderful tool to use. I would like to place one copy in the listening center of each 3rd grade class, where students can listen and learn. I would also like to add 2 copies to each classroom Lending Library media collection to be borrowed by students to take home for study. We find it amazing that students know the words of so many songs on the radio, and yet don't recall basic facts in class. With the multiplication facts set to rhythm, I believe students will commit them to memory faster.
There are seven third grade classes in our school, serving approximately 20 students each. Watching 3rd graders struggle to calculate simple problems is heartbreaking. I am thankful to recall these facts from memory, and would like my students to have that satisfaction also.
