Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our 6th-grade classroom, every tool is a stepping stone toward unlocking the joy of discovery and the power of problem-solving. As a teacher in a high-need district, I see firsthand the brilliance and resilience of my students. Each day, they bring enthusiasm, creativity, and determination to our classroom, even when resources are limited. Whiteboards allow students to work through problems, erasing mistakes and trying again without fear of failure. Small group whiteboards also foster teamwork and discussion, helping students explain their reasoning and learn from one another. For my visual and kinesthetic learners, this makes math concepts come alive, turning abstract ideas into tangible solutions.
Basic supplies—pencils, markers, rulers, and graph paper—are the building blocks of a successful math classroom.
Yet, for many students in high-need districts, accessing these essentials can be a challenge. By ensuring that every student has the tools they need, we remove barriers to participation and create an environment where everyone can focus on learning. When students have the right tools, they gain confidence and pride in their work
In a math classroom, flexible seating fosters engagement by allowing students to find their comfort zone during activities that require concentration or collaboration.
What I love most about my students is their perseverance and curiosity. They approach challenges with a unique blend of grit and humor, often surprising me with their innovative solutions and willingness to help one another. They remind me daily that success is not just about what we know but how we apply our knowledge to make a difference. By equipping our classroom, I can better support their diverse needs and aspirations, helping them develop skills that extend far beyond the classroom walls. In a high-need district, these resources become lifelines, bridging gaps and opening doors to opportunities that every student deserves.
