My students are an amazing group of kids. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E., math, and science. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth grade school located in rural California. It houses 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys, and deer.
Our school has a strong academic and athletic culture.
I want to maintain our strength in these areas by continuing to provide materials to enrich my students' experiences.
My Project
My students need various multiplication games and manipulatives such as FLIP IT, a Clever Catch Ball and an Area & Perimeter Hands-On Teaching Kit. Third graders need to master their multiplication facts before heading to fourth grade. We practice our facts daily by skip counting, making arrays and taking timed test, but they would love some additional games and manipulatives to make learning their facts more engaging.
My students work hard every day to conceptually learn their multiplication facts.
Our math program promotes learning the 'why' of multiplication, but doesn't do a great job of practicing the memorization of the facts. These games and manipulatives will give them fun ways to practice their skills.
Every Friday, students who are caught up with their work get to participate in game day. I would like to add these games to our library so they have more engaging activities to help them learn their math facts.
