This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Spanish scholars are working to improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills every day. They crave interactive and hands-on learning rather than the boring repetitive worksheets (that you may have suffered through in Spanish class).

My Spanish scholars come from an urban center in Connecticut and several smaller nearby towns.

Our school focuses on Classical Studies, and 6th graders get exposure to Latin in order to boost their English and Spanish literacy skills. In Spanish class, they are incredibly curious to create and build on their language proficiency in order to interact in their neighborhoods, travel the world, and bring additional job skills to their future.

My Project

My Spanish scholars will use the white boards for a variety of literacy practices and games in our class. I have had much success with whiteboards in the past, but my classes this year are too large for the couple of whiteboards I have access to. They will also be using the flash cards and sing-along songs to increase their comfort and skill in listening to and speaking Spanish. Students with Spanish language skills from home work on a differentiated path, and the biology book set with help to get this aligned with the Common Core focus on non-fiction texts.

Your support will directly increase more than 120 students' Spanish language proficiency.

Not only will you be supporting their curiosity and intellectual challenge, you will also be helping to provide them with job and life skills.
