This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our class, there is a diverse group of secondary learners. We have various races, cultural ethnicities, and differences in economics backgrounds. Besides American-English, we have a growing population of Spanish speakers. Our learning abilities include those that are high achievers, on and below grade level, those with special needs, and speakers of other languages. In addition, our visual and kinesthetic learners make up a large amount of our population.

The students in our class are motivated and eager to learn, yet are still unenthusiastic about reading.

As a teacher, I am always searching for fun and creative ways to engage students. I would like to support my students' learning by having more options and flexibility for them within the class as a means for improving and enriching their educational experience.

My Project

Cameras in the classroom will give students the ability to create projects with more success from behind the camera and lessen the anxiety attached with being in front of a crowd. I am requesting digital cameras with cases and memory cards for multimedia literacy learning projects and activities.

The goal of the multimedia literacy learning centers is to improve student comprehension and retention by supplementing traditional forms of text based materials with the use of multimedia.

Not only will having digital cameras allow my students the chance to explore their creativity through their camera skills, but having them will also give them the opportunity to use their own photographs and videos as the catalyst for related reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Camera use in the classroom will touch on many different learning styles. Assessment activities will spark the students' creative energy and push them to participate in various ways. The use of cameras can also provide students with opportunities to work collaboratively in groups.

In class activities include storyboards and animated stories with different images the students have personally created; giving them a sense of ownership and pride in the work they create and submit for appraisal. Moreover, students can take photos to document, post, and share lessons and activities that aid in recalling information.
