Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students come to school every day to learn, have fun, and be with their friends. When they are here, we want them to feel safe and welcomed. This project is for multicultural toys that represent our diverse students and their families. As they play, we want them to see a reflection of themselves in their toys. This will increase their self-esteem and awareness of how families are different. It's also important for our students with special needs to see dolls with the equipment they use to move around such as a wheelchair, leg braces, and a walking stick.

When children see a reflection of themselves in their classroom, they know they are welcome there and will feel safe and happy to continue to learn and explore.

We plan to place the posters of families around the classroom. The family set of toys and children of differing abilities will be in the block center to use during free play. The differing abilities puzzles will be placed in our Toys & Games area for all the use during small group time or free play. It's important for us to give our students mirrors of themselves, as well as windows into the world of other children and families. We hope you can help support our project for multicultural toys.
