My third grade students live in poverty stricken neighborhoods. Many students live in a one-parent household and several live with grandparents. Over 75% of the class qualify for free and reduced price lunch. A majority of the students are African-American and Hispanic.
My third grade students are motivated to learn!
They want to learn about minority historical figures who have made contributions to our country. We want to instill in our students, pride in their culture. The students will learn more about significant events, accomplishments, and and contributions by people of color.
My Project
The third graders will embark on a journey to research historical figures that have made significant contributions to our country. We will create a Civil Rights Walk of Fame, based on an exhibit at the King Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The e-books will be available for students to read and conduct research for the project.
Students will create various multimedia and art projects to display their knowledge.
The Civil Rights Walk of Fame will be available for the school, students' families, and the community to view.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
