Multicultural Dolls for Pre-K Learning

My students need Multicultural dolls to use in our Dramatic Play Center.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Smirk's classroom raised $478

My Students

Imagine playing house with your friends. Someone is the mom, someone is the dad, and you want to feed the baby. However, you look for your baby, and all the dolls look alike. None of the dolls represent you or the other children in your class.

There are 18 energetic three and four year old children in my class.

My students and their families come from the West Indies and they are now living in an urban setting. Our school includes over 1,500 students from pre-k to eighth grade. It is a Title I school which means many of the families are living below the poverty line and about 95% of the students in the school receive free school lunch.

My Project

I believe that having Multicultural dolls will ensure each child can find a doll that is similar to themselves. They will help foster self-confidence and help students become more familiar with people who are different from themselves. The dolls I am asking for are meant to represent Hispanic children. A majority of the students in our school are West Indian but we have a growing Hispanic community. These dolls will help foster a good relationship between the students from both backgrounds. We also need clothing for the students to change the dolls into and other toys they can use while pretending to be moms and dads.

You can make it possible for my students' imagination to thrive and grow, as they learn to be members of a very multicultural community.

Dramatic play is an important tool for helping children learn about themselves, others, and the environment in which they live and dolls are a huge part of this center.
