Multicultural Children Stories and Literacy Achievement

My students needs a classroom library that consists of 27 multicultural books that brings a home and cultural link with school life.

Celebrate our Diversity and Cultures! I am a kindergarten teacher that teaches all of the subjects. My class is extremely diverse. I have 6 students that fluently speak a different home language, and my class is also racially diverse. I would like to create cultural awareness in my classroom through the use of peer-to-peer interaction and multicultural books.

Currently, some of my students are not reaching their full potential in learning due to language barriers. I would like to reach out to these students through the use of culturally relevant text to get them interested in learning and to also increase their achievement level.

Through the use of the 27 culturally relevant books, I would be using best teaching practices for English Language Learners such as collaborative grouping, providing a home and school link, and movement and drama to increase the literacy achievement for bilingual students in my classroom.

Your help will ensure that my multicultural students will have the chance to relate home life with school life. In doing so, their interest in school and achievement level would increase. Furthermore, the other students in the class will learn about various cultures from around the world and develop the appreciation of the diversity in the world that surrounds them.
