My Students
My third-grade students are eager to learn. They are curious, creative, and have great imaginations even though we are a Title I school in a high poverty neighborhood.
School is a safe place and I do my best to make my classroom fun and exciting.
Most of my students live in public housing. Their neighborhoods are rough and school is a place for them to be safe. My class is mostly African American children who face a lot of challenges.
My job, as a teacher, is to help them overcome these challenges and become the amazing adults I know they can become.
My Project
Why blend in when you were meant to stand out? I want my students to know that their differences are meant to be celebrated. I want more examples in my classroom library of children who are black, native American, Hispanic, and Muslim.
Help me to teach my kids that differences in skin color or religion are meant to be celebrated and that diversity is wonderful.
Imagine how boring life would be if we all looked the same or we all like the same things, or we all talked the same.
My kids need to learn that the United States is made up of many dialects and that these different styles of writing should be celebrated. I am trying to build up my classroom library to reflect the dynamics of my classroom.
This year I am going to be teaching using the culturally responsive teaching method and I need these books to help accomplish this goal. If you can help us in any way I really appreciate it.
