My Students
My third-grade students are eager to learn. They are curious, creative, and have great imaginations even though we are a Title I school in a high poverty neighborhood.
School is a safe place and I do my best to make my classroom fun and exciting.
Most of my students live in public housing. Their neighborhoods are rough and school is a place for them to be safe. My class is mostly African American children who face a lot of challenges.
My job, as a teacher, is to help them overcome these challenges and become the amazing adults I know they can become.
My Project
I have a huge library, I believe that children need access to all kinds of books. I have spent a lot of money stocking my library but I am missing an important category and that is multicultural books.
My students deserve the opportunity to read books about other African American children!
It is so important that my students read more books about kids who look like them. One of the books I picked is called Not Quite Snow White. So many of the books set the standard of beauty as white. I shop thrift stores, yard sales, everywhere I can look, and I have supplied over 1000 books using my own money for my class but multicultural books are rare to find and my kids need these. I am really hoping someone will up. Thank you in advance for your generosity and kindness.
