This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We were in school like a normal day not knowing what was to come. We thought we would be out for a few days. Most of the students took home a library book to use for remote learning if it came to that. It did come to that and more! My seniors will miss out on so many activities like their trip, breakfast, and more.
We didn't even get to say goodbye.
My Project
Today's classroom is more diverse than ever before. Multicultural books are needed to help students embrace differences by showing them the strengths of diversity.
It can be disheartening for students to read a never-ending stream of stories full of characters they can not relate to.
In contrast, students get a boost in self-esteem when they read books in which their cultures or ethnicities are represented.
I want to offer my students books that represent themselves in both the story and on the cover! What an amazing collection we will have with these books. They will be able to read them while they are home learning. A good book is always a good thing to have!! It is relaxing to curl up with a good book.
