Multi-Sensory Reading Through Sight, Hearing, and Touch!
My students need story books that are tactile through the touch and textures within the books. They also need the sounds of the story books for the auditory/hearing to meet their curiosity.

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am amazed by my students in my classroom. I have six precious boys and girls in my classroom. Each student is faced with so many challenges yet so eager and excited to come to school to learn each and every day. Their challenges range from visual impairment to severe cognitive delays. My students require hands-on materials with textures and sounds to help them explore and learn within the school environment.
I teach in a school where all students are offered free lunch due to the low income and high poverty level that they live in on a daily basis.
This poverty greatly impacts student education at all levels. Having reading resources readily available for my students would allow them to be exposed to opportunities that they might not have at home.
Receiving funding for this project would be a blessing to my students. It would give my students the opportunity to grow step-by-step through the textured and board books purchased through the grant and supported by the staff in our classroom. Thank you for considering our submission. My students with their six smiling faces and other new students as they come into my classroom will truly be happy.
My Project
My project will provide my students with reading materials for enjoyment as well as meeting their special needs learning goals. Students who will greatly be impacted by this project are all special needs children with cognitive delays as well as visual delays that require books that use other senses than sight. This is where the project will use multi-sensory strategies in the area of sight, hearing, and touch. This will make such a great difference in my students’ lives.
Students will be provided multi-sensory learning experiences that will more likely allow them to retain information over time.
These senses included sight, hearing, and touch. By using the textured books selected, students will feel the different textures and materials on each page as they are guided through the books. With the fabric and movement books, students will be allowed to use multi-sensory experiences in the areas of touch and hearing to make their way through the book as the staff reads it to them. With the musical and story telling books, students will select buttons that will engage them through their book as they hear the story.
Students will be engaged with the books and stories in the classroom daily. They will have choices to select from various types of books. This will open a whole new door into reading and literacy skills through multi-sensory experiences. Thank you for helping make a difference in our classroom.
