My Students
Do you know the struggles my students have trying to learn to read sight words? Help my six Autistic students learn to read common sight words by using a multi-sensory approach.
My students need to see, touch, and hear in order to learn and master concepts.
They need to do more than just read a word on a card or the blackboard; they need to be able to touch the word as well. My six students are all in the second grade and are all diagnosed with Autism.
My students are functioning at various levels. My students are multi-sensory learners and need to get in touch with all of their senses in order to learn new concepts. They need many opportunities to learn concepts and retain previously learned material. My students also need sensory information integrated into all aspects of their school day.
My Project
I have found it is challenging for my students to learn to read sight words. I am requesting tactile word and letter cards to help learn my students identify, read, and spell words that they are learning about in English Language Arts. I know that these word tiles will help my struggling readers learn to read by tapping into different senses.
With these resources, my students will be able to touch and manipulate the words in order to learn to identify and read the words. These resources will also help my students learn to spell and write the words as well.
This project will help make it easier for my struggling students to learn to read important sight words that are necessary for reading.
These resources will allow my students to use a multi-faceted way of learning to read.
