My Students

My students are responsible, quick, and curious. In my class, students show their style of learning and use their strengths to help those around them.

Students in my class are in need of social-emotional learning skills to help them develop healthy skills, such as empathy and acceptance.

In English class, I can help them by reading texts that focus on these skills and working with students to make text-to-self-connections to know how they would act or could improve their actions to be more accepting of themselves and their peers.

Our school is well supported by our parents and community. Students here know their learning always comes first.

My Project

Our students have so much knowledge at their fingertips, but they don't have the life experience to connect with other cultures. When they are engaged with diverse texts, they can make connections and gain a strong sense of unity and empathy.

Multicultural literature allows students to learn about other cultures to develop a deeper understanding of the human experience.

Diverse reading peaks students interests and encourages them to learn more about the world around them. Becoming critical thinkers and readers can be encouraged by guiding students through complex literature.

Refugee is a multicultural historical fiction novel weaving together the stories of three refugees from different settings. This lends well to research as students look for more experiences to connect.
