In early childhood we celebrate the similarities and differences that we see in our classroom and in our school. In order to help my students learn to appreciate the different backgrounds & cultures in our class, I need to provide my students with more hands-on materials such as toys, games, etc.
My class is full of happy, energetic, and fun-loving preschoolers!!
We learn through play and hands-on games and materials. We are constantly singing, moving, and learning. I have 40 early childhood students between my AM and PM classes (20 students in each session). My students range in age from 3-5 years. My program is geared towards at-risk students, or those who qualify for needing additional special education services (30% of my students).
My Project
These materials will allow me to incorporate different cultures and backgrounds into several of our daily centers including in our listening center, music, dramatic play/housekeeping, blocks and science! Students will be able to experience different types of music, have more opportunities to see similarities and differences among people through pictures and dolls, and by wearing different types of cultural clothing. The materials requested not only represent the children in our classroom and their families, but these material will be able to be used with students for many years to come.
In my classroom we are constantly striving to strengthen our peer relationships and social interactions.
By creating a more multi-cultural classroom, I will be able to teach my students skills such as acceptance, respect for others, appreciating differences, & being able to share part of their home and family with our classroom and students. I want my students to learn to accept differences, learn to love themselves for who they are, & to feel good about themselves and their family traditions.
