Welcome to our first grade classroom in Madison Alabama. We are the oldest school in Madison. The building is historical and although it may lack the bells and whistles of newer, bigger schools, it is filled with students eager to learn and teachers willing to help.
We are a multicultural classroom in a title one school.
After attending a "Be About It: Unpacking bias and anti-racist instruction" conference, I became inspired to enrich our classroom with multi-cultural books and activities.
My Project
My goal is to incorporate multi-cultural learning into my first grade classroom. Through stories, activities, and journals, we will learn about multi-cultural leaders as well as various cultures. Through a new library, I hope to open the door to other cultures and help the children of various cultures feel valued and loved. It is important for us to empathize what it is like to feel different as well as to learn about other cultural stories, values, and beliefs. Since our school is a Title 1 school set within a community of engineers from all over the world, we have a wide variety of nationalities within our school and classroom.
