My students need 100 additional bags of mulch to continue and complete the landscaping and beautification projects for the areas surrounding our school.

My Students
I start work at 8:00am every day, and from 8:00-8:40 Monday - Thursday I work with my gardening club. Calling our group a gardening club is really a huge understatement, as we have essentially transformed the green areas surrounding the school over the past year.
Our school is located in Brooklyn, and all of the students receive free school lunch.
The students in the gardening club have all elected to be there, and are quite dedicated to the projects that we have taken on. Over the 2010-2011 school year we have pulled up huge areas of weeds and unkempt grass and covered the areas with mulch to make it more eco-friendly (no lawnmower required), and as a natural way to prevent additional weed growth. We have planted countless perennial bulbs, which we all enjoyed this past spring. We do daily clean-ups of litter, trim and maintain the hedges, planted an herb garden, and decorated the gardens with some beautiful annuals.
My Project
We have used all of the mulch that we received through DonorsChoose.org and other grants last year. When we got the mulch it seemed like it would last forever, and now we're back at zero, and still have quite a bit of work to do. 100 bags of mulch would allow us to finish our landscaping and beautification projects, and then we would be able to focus on maintaining what we have created.
I know that gardening has made a tremendous impact in the lives of my students.
When I was expressing my apprehension about planting some tree bed gardens, one student said, "We should plant the flowers around the trees so kids see flowers when they walk to school instead of garbage." I couldn't deny such a strong and heartfelt request. My gardening students have really become ambassadors of the school - please help them to follow through with the projects to which they are so closely tied.
