Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a school-based pediatric speech language pathologist I work with a wide variety of students with many areas of strength and areas of need. Each of my students are amazing in their own unique ways and I love working with them year after year and seeing all the amazing growth they show with their communication skills. I love being a speech-language pathologist for many reasons, but one of my favorite reasons is that speech-language pathology encompasses so much. My scope of practice can include PreK students working on their early developing phonological sounds, second graders working on syntax, including grammatical morphemes, and fourth graders working on their social-pragmatic language (and more) all in one day!

School-based speech-language pathologists help support a wide range of students within the school district and are the experts in the areas of articulation, language, and social skills!

Communication is such an important aspect of life and learning, which makes SLPs and integral part of any school. There are so many ways a speech pathologist can work with students, but the most effective way is one that is engaging, exciting, and related to their goals and objectives. I am asking for funding for the items selected so that I can better engage my students and help them develop their speech and language skills. I feel that the materials I have selected will help me to target specific expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language goals that will help my student develop their skills in an effective and naturalistic way.
