My Students

This upcoming school year, I will be working as a first year teacher in a PreK-8 school. At my school, more than half of the students will be coming from low-income households and more than half are high needs students. I will be working with a diverse and hardworking group of students from grades 2-4 who face a number of academic challenges.

In order for my students to perform in the classroom, they must be engaged and empowered.

Many of my students have attention difficulties or learning disabilities that require a room filled with patience, positivity and flexibility. To access the curriculum, my students need multiple approaches to the skills and strategies that they are taught. Finding and implementing the unique ways that my students learn best is my goal as a first year teacher.

My Project

Flexible seating provides students with a unique approach to learning. This project will help my special education students determine how they learn best. Giving my students flexible seating options will make them shine across all content areas, in a variety of ways.

Flexible seating encourages students to have control over their learning, which increases independence.

Giving students the option to sit in a stool, bean bag chair, balance ball or on the rug, will provide students with the flexibility they need to learn. Flexible seating in my classroom will promote trust and respect, which will help build a positive student-teacher relationship.
