Help me give my students a cozy and calm area in our classroom. A space for them to relax, calm down, take a brain break and get themselves mentally ready to learn.

My Students

Teaching second grade is such a delightful experience. They come to us so full of energy and excitement.

Despite the pandemic and dealing with the struggles of virtual learning, these students have persevered.

Their mental health and well being is just as if not more important to me than their academics.

My Project

I want to create a safe haven for my students to take a deep breathe, relax and regroup within the classroom. This space will be a form of self care for my students. Kids deal with as much trauma and stress as adults nowadays. So, if I can give them a place for peace and where they feel comfortable and safe then they can be better learners.

When you feel better then you do better.

All of these materials are needed to relax. The timer will be used for students to pace themselves. The emotion flashcards will be for them to nonverbally express to me how they are. The other items are activities the students can use in order to calm down and relax.
