Mathematics is often a subject that students cringe at when even mumbled from anyone's mouth. Having an LCD projector in the classroom will create interactive math lessons while showing the value of such math skills in our daily lives.
My students are a fun and lively bunch located on the south side of Chicago.
My student population is 98% African American and 78% low income. I teach an AP Calculus class, an IB math class, and Advanced Algebra classes with many students who have the dream and ambition to attend college post-graduation. This fills my heart with joy as I hope to give them all a chance to succeed in their future. I am trying to set high expectations for these students with a rigorous curriculum despite the fact that they are in a low-income neighborhood. All students can achieve entrance into a good college and receive good grades in high school, no matter what their economic status is or the funds their school can provide them.
My Project
I teach three Advanced Algebra classes, an International Baccalaureate Math Studies class, and AP calculus. I have students on the verge of making a definitive choice about their post-graduate plans, and I need to prepare and influence them for their hopeful collegiate future. Within my classroom, I plan on using an LCD projector for daily lessons and real life applications/examples for my students to see how the material they are learning is practical and useful. An LCD projector will give me access to use progressive technology for my students; something that they lack. I will be able to use PowerPoint's, digital calculators, math simulations, and Internet websites. An LCD projector will open up a lot of opportunities for my students to see math used outside of the traditional textbook manner.
This project is a very important project for my students and my classroom because my students will be able to improve their education tremendously with progressive technology.
This projector will help with my rigorous curriculum for my students to help in preparation for their college future.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
