This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
After being in education for 16 years and teaching math exclusively for the past 7 years, I am changing up the classroom. I have been researching different methods for engagement and true math thinking. I am deeply inspired by the book Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics.
My goal for this year is to get the kiddos up and moving and collaborating on tasks (both curricular and non curricular).
The use of vertical whiteboards will allow the students to try, make mistakes, work together and most of all - find the joy in math. I would like to dispell the saying, "I can't do math" and have students find that "doing math" is really fun and everyone can "do math".
