This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my current classroom, I am trying to set up a charging station to encourage my students to remain off of their phones and to stay focused. My room will be so comfortable with new decorations and a space heater. Currently, with lots of windows in the room, I often teach in a jacket, hat, boots, and gloves during the winter. I am sure they’d have an easier time learning if they weren’t freezing!! Especially since many of them come from homes where they cannot afford jackets and other warm clothes.

My students and I will use these supplies throughout the remainder of the year in order to engage with state standards in a new and improved manner.

For example, they will be happier having their phones away from them if they’re on a charger. Coloring materials will help them different between different lines in diagrams in their geometry notes as I show notes on the TV in color to help them. I’m hoping the posters will make them feel more comfortable and welcome as well and remind them that they should be gentle with themselves even in what can be a stressful class.

Without these supplies, it would be very costly in order to provide my students with these materials. Even with my 2 jobs, I still am not able to afford everything I wish I had for these awesome kids.
