This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine not having the tools needed for students to receive the best education they deserve. Lessons relevant to the real world, reflecting knowledge and skills students need for success, should be planned. A laptop will help us achieve our goal to connect our math class to real life.
Common Core Standards are challenging for all students, especially for English Language Learners.
My students, who already have the challenge of learning a new language, now have to be able to demonstrate deep understanding of the concepts presented in class and use critical thinking and problem solving strategies to find solutions of real life problems. It is important to keep in mind that these students' academic performance is below that of their peers.
This group of students comes from low income families who do not have the resources to support their children's education. The cuts to educational services leave us with less educational support for these students, making it more difficult to implement strategies to address learning gaps. These challenges haven't turned off my enthusiasm and the motivation of my students. They have a strong desire to learn. They will share strategies learned through presentations.
My Project
My students need a laptop. A laptop connected to our LCD projector will help students understand the course material being presented. The visual presentations will allow me to create demonstrations to accompany my spoken lessons. The large screen will bring presentations to life and will make lessons more interesting. Most of us, if not all, benefit from visual presentations.
A laptop will foster collaboration between students as they work together on projects. We will be able to implement programs and use engaging websites during our daily activities. This will allow students more control over their own learning process as they make the decisions about when to repeat questions or videos. We will be able to have fun activities such as a "Movie Day" when I pick an educational movie to present in class and students complete math problems about the movie presented.
We have an LCD projector that we received last year thanks to generous donators like you.
However we cannot use it unless we get a laptop to connect it to. Knowing the economic situation of our school system, we cannot consider buying a computer on our own. Your donation will make our dream come true and will connect these future professionals to the world from our classroom. Be part of our success.
