My Students
I have forty students all together but only teach twenty at one time. I love working with all of them as we further our reading and writing skills as well as our understanding of both United States and Illinois history. My students are working hard during their first full year back in person. Not only are we working on our education but we are also remembering what it is like to socialize with one another daily as well as working on our handwriting rather than typing on a computer. One reason they are so hard working is that they are just happy to be together in person once again.
I am beyond grateful for my students, not only am I a first-year teacher but I am also arriving at their school mid-year.
All of my students have welcomed me with open hearts and minds and I could not have asked for a better first group of students.
My Project
Sitting at a desk all day is not easy for anyone to let alone children who have lots of energy. This project will allow me to provide my students with flexible seating that can keep them mobile while still learning.
Beyond being able to stay mobile, even fourth graders have off days and struggle to regulate and understand their emotions.
That is why I would like to give them a safe, comforting place to relax and process these emotions. Having a cozy corner in or near the library would also be a great place for students to cozy up with a new book or meet with a small group.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
