My Students

The more you read, the more things you'll know. Dr. Seuss said it best! I am currently a Kindergarten teacher that will be teaching 1st grade for the 1st time in August 2016. I plan to create a learning environment that is student-centered, vibrant, and full of various opportunities to learn!

My 1st grade students are ready to learn and explore through literacy!

It is amazing that my students are excited about reading and enjoy every opportunity that they have to read. The students that attend my school are bright and eager, however due to economic issues, many do not have access to books outside of the educational environment. For this reason it is important to me that students are provided with various opportunities to learn and explore through reading. A classroom library and listening center will allow my students to continue to develop their literacy skills.

My Project

The classroom library is a important place in my classroom. Students in my classroom participate in learning center rotations when I teach reading in small groups. The class library is one of the rotations and students often can't wait to get to the library. It is a opportunity for students to chose reading that interests them as well as read in a area that is calming and comfortable. Since my students enjoy reading opportunities, I am planning to include a listening center so that students can read along with more complex books. These nonfiction books and audiobooks will help us LEAP into higher levels of literacy.

The donations to this project with positively impact the learning and academic growth of my new 1st grade students.

Providing students with reading materials and the opportunity to advance their literacy skills in both the library and listening centers will be valuable to their academic success in all areas of learning.
