Help me give my students instruments in order to join band at the elementary level and help them continue to learn their instrument while they are at home!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Working in a low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both inside and out of the classroom. Due to the many challenges they face, I strive to keep a high energy and fun learning classroom, allowing them to experience new things.
As their music teacher, I am constantly providing them with upbeat, fun and exciting opportunities they may not necessarily experience otherwise.
They love to sing, dance and play instruments, but we are very limited with our resources. I would love to be able to improve their music education and performance experience by giving them basic tools to help them succeed.
“Music has the power of producing a certain effect on the moral character of the soul, and if it has the power to do this, it is clear that the young must be directed to music and must be educated in it.”
– Aristotle
My Project
At least twice a week I have students ask if they can join the band program at the elementary school. Unfortunately, the program is run on a first come-first serve basis and we run out of instruments extremely quickly. In addition, some of our instruments are not in the best shape and are in constant need of repairs.
My goal is to add some new instruments to our inventory at the elementary level so that I can accommodate more scholars in grades 3-5.
Participating in the band program helps to build and teach responsibility, team work skills and provides scholars with extra curricular opportunities that can help them be more successful as they continue their education.
Being a part of the band program allows our students to feel important and needed. We are a team, we are a family that works together to achieve our musical goals. It also encourages and motivates them both inside and outside of the music classroom to be the best that they can be.
