Every student needs to have a space to take a break, sometimes during class. Using the bean bag lounger will give the students a comfy spot to relax. The string lights are used to create a warm feeling in the area of comfort. The carpet, will create visual boundary lines so that other students will know to give space to the student using the calm corner.
Students need a special place to de-escalate from social environments in order to do their best learning.
When a student is escalated, they are not in the right mind to learn. Making sure to give them a nice calm spot to help with the process while they wait to talk with someone or become ready to learn is very important. I want to help make sure my students know they can feel safe in my room when they are in a vulnerable state.
