Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The items that I have purchased for the classroom will firstly provide these students with comfortable seating on the floor because desks can be uncomfortable for a 90 minute time period. Also the classroom lacks much color and these cushions and the rug will provide color and comfortable seating within the classroom. The other items will provide toner for the many handouts that they need to practice basic reading and writing skills and pens and pencils to help them to express their answers to reading assignments and writing assignments daily.
The first goal is to add color and comfort to the classroom which feels empty and uncomfortable.
The second goal is to replenish classroom supplies such as toner and pens and pencils so that the students can have the much needed worksheets that they need to reinforce their reading and writing skills daily. With most of the students in this classroom being several grade levels below their grade level in reading skills and writing skills this extra practice is very important for these students to catch up to where they need to be at their age and in their grade, so they can pass on to the next grade at the end of this school year.
These are all ESE students and are special in that they have different challenges that they need to cope with and overcome in order for them to achieve the same skills that other students their age and in their grade accomplish with little or no difficulty. They come together in this classroom because they need to be in smaller group to learn about reading and writing with less distractions and more attention than in the general education classroom.
