Mrs. S's Centers Go Digital!

My students need four tablets for math center rotations. Tablets add to a student's learning experience by allowing them to practice their skills in different ways - they can play a learning game or read digital material.

My Students

There is no sweeter sound than hearing your students say "I understand! I get it!" Math is commonly a subject that students struggle with as they get older; fourth grade being an especially difficult year with subject matter. This upcoming school year I will be working with fourth grade students teaching Math, Science, and Social Studies.

I work in a rural school Title I school that serves students in grades 3-5.

Title I means that many of our students come from low income families. Our school and our community are very supportive of the education of our youth. It is not only our goal to make sure that students understand the subject matter, but to prepare them for a lifetime of learning and growing. We are "Anchored in Excellence."

My Project

As students get older and the math and science get harder, students begin to become uninterested or dislike them. Math and science skills are essential at any age, but especially as students get prepared for fifth grade and middle school. One way to capture a student's attention is to incorporate technology during instructional time.

In my classroom, I like to follow direct teaching with center rotations and small groups.

As some groups are working with me, it would be wonderful to have another small group working on the tablets. Tablets can be integrated in the classroom as a learning tool.

Having four tablets in the classroom will allow each student in the small group to work on their own tablet. There are apps that allow the students to connect to each other and challenge each other in learning games. Students could also practice fluency such as, multiplication and division facts. Students could also break into teams and each team would have a tablet to use.
