My Students

A great deal of my students have had very little exposure to the arts. When they think of music, they think of "boring, classical music". A guitar program will put real instruments in their hands and be an amazing opportunity for them to learn the actual art of music.

Our students live in a community that was greatly affected by Hurricane Sandy.

These are amazing kids that have learned how to overcome hardships, and still keep a great spirit. We have a limited music program in our school due to funding, yet the eagerness and desire is high. Many of them will go through life never knowing what an outlet music can be for them. My hope is that by creating a guitar program for them, they can add fun and music to their lives, and hopefully learn a skill that they may not have had access to otherwise. The music program I had when I was younger changed my life. I would love for this program to be able to do the same for others.

My Project

This program will put an actual guitar in each students hands, and they will learn how to read music and play the instrument. Students who may not have been eligible for band can now have a group that they "belong" to. The guitar class will be incorporated into the general music program so that as many students as possible can be reached!

Right now, our music program consists of band and general singing for the younger grades.

We have a void in our older students who are not being exposed to the further possibilities of music. A guitar is an instrument that they all recognize and would be able to learn easily, giving them a sense of accomplishment and a boost to their self-esteem.
