This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the privilege of working at a school with some amazing students! I spend a lot of time supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom. Whether it’s talking about identifying problems, developing self-regulation skills, or engaging in discussions about taking care of ourselves, and others, I utilize various mental health supports in both individual and group work.

I will provide tools for teachers to utilize when helping students to regulate in the classroom and create a positive classroom community.

I will use the 5-minute communication cards as well as the 5-minute relationship cards during my individual check ins with students. I will also utilize these during the small groups that I conduct, which are often focused on developing friendship skills and finding appropriate ways to express our feelings.

A lot of my time is spent in the classroom using social emotional curriculum for all grade levels.

The 180 days of social emotional learning activity books will serve as a supplement for all grade levels. Many students often come to school dysregulated, having not eaten breakfast, and that is where I will use the daily social emotional check in/mindful breathing write and wipe boards and various requested snacks to make sure they start their days off on the right foot.
