My Project
In our 9th-grade English class, we’re diving into the world of dystopian literature—a genre that encourages students to reflect on society, power, and the consequences of technological and governmental control. To deepen our understanding and foster a love for reading, I am requesting a set of dystopian novels for use in literature circles.
Literature circles will allow students to collaborate, engage in rich discussions, and analyze different dystopian worlds.
Each student will have the opportunity to read and discuss a novel of their choice from. This approach not only promotes reading comprehension and critical thinking but also helps develop teamwork and communication skills as students learn from each other's perspectives and from those within the books themselves.
The novels I’m requesting include classics like Ender's Game, The Handmaid's Tale, Fahrenheit 451, but also include contemporary titles as well like The Hunger Games, The Grace Year, Warcross, and many more in order to allow for ample student choice. Students will be able to select a text of their choosing suited to their interests and reading level. These texts will provide a variety of viewpoints and themes that will challenge my students to think critically about their own world and the future.
