I am an elementary special education teacher, and I work with students in grade TK-6. My students have unique sensory needs, and require special tools to help them thrive in school and access the curriculum.
Some of my more popular tools include special visual timers, noise cancelling headphones, and fidgets.
In addition, many of my students prefer glue sticks as liquid glue can be too difficult for them to use, and presents a sensory issue for them.
My students love visual timers where they can see the time running out so that transitions will not be a surprise for them. The timer type that I have listed on my donation request is the most popular, and helps my students regulate their anxiety.
My class is always in need of putty and water/oil fidgets for my students to use. These are some of the most popular fidgets, and are very helpful for students to regulate while they are taking a break.
Finally, noise cancelling headphones are always in demand. Many of my students have sensory processing disorders, and the headphones help them with their sound sensitivities. Headphones allow them to attend louder events such as assemblies, school events, or even go on the playground.
