Mrs. Hall's Class Book Drive

My students need 50+ books to read at home because of the social economical background.

My Students

"I can't live without books," Thomas Jefferson said, and my students enjoy reciting this quote. My students are from a low, social economic background and they need books to have for their home library. Reading is a vital part of a child's life. Books are a gift that can be opened repeatedly.

We are a Title-One school located in Georgia.

I realize that most of our students don't have books at home. My students enjoy reading a variety of books (fiction, nonfiction, folktales, and historical figures. They like to respond to books orally and with written expression. We encourage our students to read with their parents and family members. Each student in my class has pledge to read and respond to 100 books or more this school year. My students enjoy going to Reading Celebrations each nine weeks for reaching their reading goals. They also like to do author studies and study the author's craft and style. The students can identify the author's craft and record it on a noticing chart.

My Project

The Book Drive will promote lifelong readers and family involvement. Support from the community will bring up the students' morale. This project will increase family reading time, their reading levels, and reading as a hobby. The students will continue to respond to books and work toward their reading goals with this project. The students will become independent readers which will improve their standardized test scores. The students will learn the importance of reading and cherish their gift of reading.

This Book Drive will touch the lives of so many students in different ways.

The students will read more with the availability of books at home. This project will provide books for students to start their home library. Books will be a gift that the students will be able to open over and over again. The parents will read to or listen to their child read. This project will increase their reading levels and promote lifelong readers.
