My Students
I have a classroom full of 22 eager-to-learn first graders, and they are the most amazing group of kids. They come to school excited about the day and ready to work hard and learn a lot. They have a variety of different interests and all love to read.
My classroom is also full of students whose families speak only Spanish at home.
My school is a high poverty school in Memphis, TN. Our school is a very large school, but, even though it is large, the students still feel that it is their home, and they are welcomed there. We want it to be an effective learning environment and want these students to have every opportunity available to them.
My Project
These books will make a difference in my students' learning by giving them books that fit their interests. These books are also great mentor texts that will be used to teach reading and writing skills and then will be added to the classroom library for students to enjoy for the rest of the year.
These books are also very diverse and show different cultures for students to identify with and find books with characters who look like they do and they can connect with.
These books will make a difference in my students' learning because they are engaging stories that will draw students in a create a love for reading.
