This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students are Corbett Elementary School are terrific kids who sometimes struggle with emotional regulation and conflict resolution skills.

I seek to create a calm and comforting counseling office that intentionally offers resources that cultivate students' social and emotional growth.

Games such as CBTiger, Emotional Rollercoaster, and Hoot Owl Hoot support students in learning essential thinking, emotional management, and team-building skills. The books I have chosen are inclusive and encourage students' grit, self-discovery, and self-esteem. These books include titles such as "What I Am," "Charlotte and the Quiet Place," and "The Friend I Need: Being Kind & Caring to Myself."

Since our students are working on emotional regulation skills, I have chosen tools such as the Marble Mat Sensory Relief Stress Toy, Purrable Calming Toy (one of my FAVORITES), Weighted Dog Stuffed Animal, and a plush brain, which helps students understand how their brain works when they experience difficult emotions.

Also, I hope to create a calm and welcoming school counseling office with soft lights and with familiar toys such as LEGOs when students need a moment to reset in my office.

I am a brand-new school counselor and am starting from scratch as far as resources go. Any support you can provide will directly impact students and their social and emotional development! On a side note, my school is a Title I school, and the students I serve will absolutely benefit from these excellent resources.
