Help me give my students a calming, low stress and productive environment. An environment where the basic needs for our classroom are readily available. A classroom where we can celebrate/reward for achievements and successes.
I am currently teaching a reading intervention class for 7th and 8th graders. In this classroom the students are at least 3 grade levels below the average student their age. This class provides an opportunity for the students to learn many phonics skills they did not get due to frequent moves within the home, lack of attendance, or parental support. This class give the students an opportunity to learn basic skills most take for granted- they will gain the skills of sounding a word out, chunking sounds together, decoding vocabulary and increase their reading levels. My students come into my room angry, frustrated with a low-achievement level- I strive daily to provide a calm, comforting and accepting environment. I want my students to lose the worry of not having the right school supplies or materials. I want my students to feel calm and low-stress when they are in my classroom- this is when learning can occur! I want my students to have the basic needs provided for my class without worry of cost, availability or brand. I want my students to be rewarded with small rewards for the successes that they achieve.
