Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every day my 46 students break into small groups to work on specific intervention skills he/she needs to become better readers. This is the part of the day where my high students get challenged and my low students get the attention they need to enhance their skills.
I use many resources throughout the year, but one thing we never have enough of is physical books.
It's almost impossible for a group of 6-10 students to share one copy of a book. This is why I am requesting 10 copies of each book.
I specifically looked for books that are geared for first graders and are also interesting! I love the Scholastic acorn and branches books-they are engaging and designed with young kids in mind.
The "I can't read" begins early in life. I want to put a halt to that type of negative mindset before it ever takes root. What better way to set children up for success than to place entertaining books right in their hands? We are an economically disadvantaged area, so many of my students do not own books at home. My classroom becomes their door to the outside world.
