My Project

My developmentally delayed preschool students are between the ages of 3-5. Due to Covid, some of my students have never played with children outside of their immediate family until now! They are learning so many new skills each day, but I would love to make our dramatic play area even more magical.

I am requesting new classroom materials for our dramatic play areas.

All children learn best through play, but my students have limited social skills compared to their same age peers. The benefits of dramatic play include: Learning conflict resolution, helping children to learn creative problem-solving skills alongside their peers, exploring self-empowerment, allowing kids the opportunity to make choices, act out their feelings, and find a new connection to themselves. Dramatic play also teaches and encourages expressive language and the use of new vocabulary.

Children are motivated to communicate their wishes to their peers and therefore must learn to speak from the perspective of their pretend roles. My developmental preschool students are working on social skills to help them get ready for kindergarten!
