Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hard working kids with diverse backgrounds in a Title I (urban) District. Although our Physical Education equipment may be older, the students still find joy in the physical education classroom and allow their creativity and enthusiasm to shine! As one team at our school, we strive to work hard everyday in and outside of the classroom. My students are not afraid to take chances and explore challenges within physical education classroom. We work on many different skills and dive into various sports/activities that the students may or may not have seen before.
It is our mission as teachers to expose students to different ways they can stay active and healthy and generalize these skills into their community environments.
These skills are the foundation to achieving life-long wellness which students are encouraged to partake in. My students are dedicated to their studies and deserve new equipment to set them up for a long, healthy life.
My Project
Physical education is essential for students in all grades. It is the foundation of life-long wellness and promotes practicing healthy habits for life. The materials listed will make a HUGE impact on my students' educational experience and help them develop proper gross and fine motor skills to benefit them for future success. The materials listed will encourage student engagement and allow for students to work on these skills:
-balance
-throwing
-catching
-body-space awareness/safety
-build movement competence
-sharpen knowledge for strategy
-overall health/wellness
For example, with the scooters, we are learning how to engage in different parts of our bodies at the same time. We are learning personal space and body-space awareness while giving our legs a good workout! Scooters are fun and engaging which promote health and physical wellness.
These materials are basic physical education equipment the students are in need of. For the scooters, we will be focusing on fun, engaging games to promote physical activity such as Scooter Soccer. Proper storage of the scooters (scooter stacker) will keep the scooters looking and working like-new for years to come. The hula hoops will be used within most units. The yarn balls, bean bags, and playground balls are used for a combination of units to help with hand-eye coordination such as throwing, catching and kicking skills and several team sports. All of the equipment will be stored safely to maintain for years to come for all the incoming students.
