My Students
The students coming my way in the new year are full of energy and have made themselves known in our building since they started kindergarten. There are a wide range of ability levels, as well as motivation in the classroom.
Many of these kiddos struggle with reading, both in fluency and comprehension.
They need help building a love of reading and increasing their stamina, which will help improve the other problem areas.
My Project
My name is Waylon Shaffer. I've been an elementary school teacher for 8 years, teaching in a fifth grade classroom. Next year, I'm moving to fourth grade, and I'm taking this opportunity to build up my classroom library. I have some gaps in the nonfiction section, and I've put together a list of books to fill things in.
I've chosen a wide variety of titles to round out my classroom library.
There are chapter book and picture book biographies, as well as picture books and easier readers over science, history, and biographical subjects. My hope is to give struggling readers lots of options to help them find a "just right" book they can enjoy.
