This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At my school we serve a very underprivileged group of individuals. These young ladies and gentlemen come from broken homes with little money (school is 100% free lunch). They have very little to look forward to and that is something that I try to change within the walls of my classroom. I believe that through your help my room can become a refuge for those student who see education as there way out of this downward spiral. In addition I want my room to be a place where people who don't like education can eventually start to turn themselves around before they go to high school.

My Project

The main focus of this project culminates with the entire 8th grade creating tie dye shirts as part of their curriculum based upon the standards of the 1960's in the United States. It's a team building exercise that really brings the kids together as the year is ending and they are starting to get out of hand. The additional supplies are for crafts and projects throughout the year as replacement materials for items that have been used previously or are quickly running out.

If we can help these students with their highest needs, then they have a higher chance to be successful later in life.
